LoEB: Dream Job

Hello, readers!

This week the League of Extraordinary Bloggers' asks:

If money was not a concern and you could choose any career path,
what would be your ultimate dream job?

After reading the challenge for the week on Monday I thought about my response, finally coming up with one a few days later and planning to write it up Friday afternoon until the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT were reported. As a father I was deeply saddened to hear of what transpired up North and could not imagine what those families are going through.

Sitting in front of my computer writing this out on a Saturday night a day and a half after the shooting, I've had plenty of time to reflect on just what my dream job really means to me.

If money was not a concern. If I could choose any career path. I would without question be a stay-at-home Dad.

Now, if you had asked me the same question BEFORE my daughter was born, my response would be pretty much identical to ShezCrafti's post, minus the videogames.

True story. Approximately seven years ago when I was still working for a home medical company (which, coincidentally, I likened to the film Office Space), I was asked by one of the bigwigs there what I would do if I didn't have to work, in her attempt to decipher the enigma that is 3B. My response?

"I would do nothing. I would sit on a beach somewhere and sip on PiƱa Coladas all day."

She scoffed at that idea, reasoning that I wouldn't do that because I'd destroy my liver after a few weeks. Whatever, lady, livers are replaceable. Anyway, I realized that I couldn't do something I loved for a living because it would just corrode my enjoyment of it and then I would hate my job, defeating the purpose of choosing my dream job.

So, yeah, being a SAHD isn't glamorous or easy, but I'm sure in the long-run my daughter (and any future children) would appreciate always having a parent at home and hey, who better than dear, ol' Dad?!
